The World Health Organization (WHO) regularly produces family planning / contraception guidelines and tools, in collaboration with a large number of international agencies and organizations active in family planning policies and programmes. These guidelines and tools are prepared following WHO's requirements for guideline development. The goal of these documents is to provide policy and decision-makers, the scientific community, and providers with global standards for developing or updating national guidelines on contraceptive use.
The guidelines and tools include: (1) Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use (MEC) now in its 5th edition, (2) Selected Practices Recommendations for Contraceptive use (SPR) also undergoing revision for the 3rd edition, (3) MEC wheel, (4) Global Handbook for providers also undergoing revision for the 3rd edition, and (5) Compendium for postpartum family planning.
The objective of this training workshop is to introduce and disseminate key WHO family planning guidelines and derivative tools.
The objectives of the workshop are:
- to introduce the WHO contraception guidelines or cornerstones on family planning
- to introduce the derivative documents and tools of the WHO contraception guidelines
